The Plainspoken Review

Technology explained in plain English. No jargon, no rush.

LingFit free trial: when do you pay, and how does the app remind you?

In short

  • The LingFit yearly plan starts with a seven-day free trial.
  • The app reminds you three days before it ends.
  • The monthly plan has no trial, according to the store, and is charged straight away.
  • A calendar entry of your own gives you extra peace of mind.

A free trial is a good thing. You can try an app out at your own pace. But many people worry about forgetting to cancel. Then a whole year gets charged out of the blue. In this article we answer the most common questions about the LingFit trial. And we show you how to cover yourself.

What you need

  • LingFit on your iPhone or Android phone.
  • Your Apple ID (your Apple account) or your Google account, with a payment method saved.
  • Your phone’s calendar app, or a paper diary.

What it costs

LingFit is a subscription app. A subscription is a regular payment that renews automatically until you cancel. There is no permanently free version.

According to the US App Store, the subscriptions cost this on 10 October 2026:

Plan Price (US App Store, 10 October 2026) Trial
Yearly plan 44.99 US dollars 7 days free
Monthly plan 12.99 US dollars none

We have not checked prices in pounds. They can vary by country, store and date. The price your phone shows is the one that counts.

The most common questions

How long is the trial?

Seven days. It applies to the yearly plan. During that time you can use the whole app.

When is the first payment taken?

If you do not cancel, the yearly price is charged once the seven days are up. The charge goes through the App Store or Google Play, not through LingFit directly.

Does the app remind me before it ends?

Yes. According to the maker, you get a reminder three days before the trial ends. That leaves you plenty of time to decide.

Does the monthly plan have a trial too?

According to the store listings, no. The monthly plan is charged straight away. So if you want to try before you buy, choose the yearly plan with the trial and cancel in good time if you need to.

Can I just carry on learning for free after the trial?

No. There is no free tier. After the trial you need a paid subscription to carry on learning.

What happens if I cancel during the trial?

Then nothing is charged. With subscriptions through the App Store, you can usually keep using the app until the trial days run out. After that, access ends.

Does the trial end if I delete the app?

No. This is a common mistake. Deleting the app ends neither the trial nor the subscription. You have to cancel explicitly.

Do I get a refund if I forget to cancel?

Do not count on it. LingFit’s terms of use say that purchases are not refunded, as far as the law allows. Apple’s or Google’s rules apply. You can ask the store in question, but it is not guaranteed.

How to set your own reminder, step by step

The app’s reminder is helpful. But an entry of your own gives you double the safety. Here is how it works on iPhone:

  1. Note the day you start the trial. For example: Monday, 12 October.
  2. Count five days on. In this example that is Saturday, 17 October. That gives you two days’ buffer before the end.
  3. Open the Calendar app.
  4. Tap the + in the top right.
  5. Write the title: “LingFit: keep or cancel?”
  6. Choose the day from step 2 and a time when you have some quiet.
  7. Tap Alert and choose At time of event.
  8. Tap Add.

On Android the calendar app is often called Google Calendar, or just Calendar. Tap the + in the bottom right and then Event. The rest is very similar.

A note on the fridge works just as well, of course.

Where to see when the trial ends

  • iPhone: Settings → your name at the top → Subscriptions → LingFit. The date the trial ends is shown there.
  • Android: open Google Play → your profile picture in the top right → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → LingFit.

This is also where you cancel. We have separate step-by-step guides for both.

A simple checklist for the seven days

  • Day 1: start the trial, set your own calendar entry for day 5.
  • Days 1 to 4: try the app at your own pace. Test the course, the video feed and the read-aloud of individual words.
  • Day 4 or 5: the app’s reminder arrives. Decide: keep or cancel?
  • Day 5: if you want to cancel, do it now. That way you have a buffer.

That way you stay in control without having to think about it all the time.

Good to know

  • The trial is per account. If you have already had a trial, you usually will not get a second one.
  • Your own chapters need credits (credit points). Every new account gets one free credit. Further credits are bought separately and are not included in the subscription.
  • Credits you have bought do not expire.
  • If you buy LingFit through the website, you pay through the payment service Stripe. You manage that on the LingFit website, not in the App Store.

If something goes wrong

  • You cannot find LingFit under “Subscriptions”: check that you are signed in with the same Apple ID or Google account you used to start the trial.
  • You were charged after all: check the date first. With Apple you can request a refund through the page “reportaproblem.apple.com”. With Google Play, use the order history in your profile.
  • You have questions about the app: the maker can be reached at [email protected].
