How to download LingFit on an iPhone, step by step
In short
- You download LingFit free from the App Store; the learning itself later needs a subscription.
- Your iPhone needs iOS 15 or newer.
- You sign in with your Apple ID, with no new password.

Downloading a new app onto an iPhone is easier than it sounds. You’ll need about ten minutes. In this guide we go through every step one at a time. We give the button names as they appear on an iPhone set to English.
What you need
- An iPhone or iPad with iOS 15 or newer. iOS is the operating system (the basic software the iPhone runs on).
- An Apple ID. This is your personal Apple account. You usually set it up when you bought the iPhone.
- Your Apple ID password, or Face ID (unlocking with your face) or Touch ID (unlocking with your fingerprint).
- Wi-Fi (wireless internet at home). According to the App Store listing, the app is around 180 megabytes (as of October 2026). Wi-Fi is faster and saves your mobile data.
- Enough free storage space on the phone.
What it costs
Downloading is free. To learn, though, you need a subscription (a regular payment that renews until you cancel). The yearly plan starts with a seven-day free trial. According to the US App Store, on 10 October 2026 it cost 44.99 US dollars a year. You’ll see the price in pounds yourself in the App Store before you confirm anything. Downloading on its own costs nothing.
First, check your iOS version
- Open the Settings app. It has a grey cog icon.
- Tap General.
- Tap About.
- Next to iOS Version there’s a number. If it’s 15 or higher, you’re fine.
If the number is lower, you can check under General → Software Update whether a newer version is available for your device.
How to download LingFit
- Open the App Store. The icon is blue with a white “A” made of strokes.
- Tap “Search” at the bottom right. The icon is a magnifying glass.
- Tap the search field at the top. A keyboard appears.
- Type “LingFit” and tap Search on the keyboard.
- Find the right listing. It’s called “LingFit – Watch. Learn. Speak.” and shows an orange fox as its icon. Take care not to hit an advert at the very top. Adverts are marked “Ad” in the App Store.
- Tap “Get”. The button changes to Install.
- Confirm. Depending on your iPhone, either double-click the side button and look at the screen (Face ID). Or rest your finger on the Home button (Touch ID). Or enter your Apple ID password.
- Wait. A small circle fills up. Over Wi-Fi this usually takes only a minute or two.
- Tap “Open”. The app starts. You’ll also find it later on your Home Screen, the screen with all the app icons.
The first steps in the app
- Fitty Fox, the fox mascot, greets you.
- Choose the language you speak and the language you want to learn.
- Answer a few short questions, about your level and your time per day, for example.
- The app asks whether it may send you notifications (little reminders on the lock screen). You can choose Allow or Don’t Allow. Either can be changed later.
- Sign in with Sign in with Apple. You confirm again with Face ID, Touch ID or password. You don’t need a new password.
Apple sometimes asks whether you want to share or hide your email address. Either works. If you choose “Hide My Email”, Apple forwards messages to your real address.
You can find more information about the app on the official LingFit website.
If someone else is helping you
Perhaps a child or grandchild sets the app up for you. That’s a good idea. Watch out for three things:
- The app should be downloaded with your Apple ID, not the Apple ID of the person helping. Otherwise a later subscription runs through the wrong account.
- Ask them to show you where the subscription sits in the settings: Settings → your name → Subscriptions. That way you can cancel it yourself later.
- Write down the day the trial starts. Then you’ll know when the first payment is due.
A small note with these details next to the phone saves a lot of hunting around later.
Good to know
- LingFit also runs on the iPad. On the bigger screen, pictures and buttons are larger.
- The trial only starts when you expressly begin the yearly subscription. Downloading the app on its own starts nothing.
- According to the App Store, the app is rated for ages 13 and up.
- You can delete the app again at any time. But that does not end a running subscription. You have to cancel that separately, via Settings → your name → Subscriptions.
- Would you like bigger text? Under Settings → Display & Brightness → Text Size you can set the iPhone’s text size.
If something goes wrong
- The “Get” button is grey or you get an error message: Check your iOS version and your internet connection. Restart the iPhone and try again.
- The iPhone says storage is full: Under Settings → General → iPhone Storage you can see which apps take up a lot of space. Delete photos or apps you no longer use.
- You no longer know your Apple ID password: When asked for the password, tap “Forgot password?” and follow the steps. Apple can also help in its stores.
- You can’t find the app after downloading it: On the Home Screen, swipe down in the middle. A search field appears. Type “LingFit”.
- You have a question about the app itself: The maker can be reached at [email protected].
