Your first five minutes in LingFit: what every screen wants from you
In short
- On first launch, LingFit asks a few questions to build a learning plan.
- There are no wrong answers; plenty can be changed later.
- Choose fewer minutes a day and a small streak goal.

When you open LingFit for the first time, the app asks you a few questions. Experts call this part “onboarding” (the setting up you do on first launch). It can feel a little overwhelming. So here we go through every screen. You will find out what the app wants to know and why.
What you need
- LingFit, already installed on your iPhone or Android phone.
- An internet connection.
- Your Apple ID (your Apple account) or your Google account for the sign-in at the end.
- About five quiet minutes.
What it costs
Setting up costs nothing. At the end, the app shows you the subscription offers. A subscription is a regular payment that renews until you cancel it. The yearly subscription starts with a seven-day free trial. According to the American App Store, on 10 October 2026 it cost 44.99 US dollars a year. You will see the price in pounds on the screen before you agree. Take your time reading it.
The screens, one by one
-
Fitty Fox welcomes you. An animated fox with soft fur appears. He is the app’s mascot. Tap the button at the bottom to carry on.
-
Your language and your target language. First you choose the language you speak. Then you choose the language you want to learn. English speakers can choose between twelve languages, such as Spanish, French or Italian. Tip: start with a single language.
-
Your current level. The app asks how much you already know. If you are unsure, choose the beginner level. Too easy is better than too hard. The course then starts at A1, the first stage of the European language scale.
-
Your hurdles and your motivation. Now the app asks what you find difficult and why you are learning. Perhaps you are planning a trip. Perhaps you want to talk with your family. Answer honestly. The app uses this for your plan.
-
Your age range. This question has a kind purpose. LingFit matches its tone to your age. If you say you are 35 or older, you get calmer feedback. After a correct exercise it says something like “Well played” instead of “You beast”. If you skip an exercise, you read “No worries, next one”.
-
When you want to be able to speak the language. The app asks for a target date. Feel free to choose a generous date. It is a guide, not a promise and not an exam.
-
Minutes a day. Here you choose how much time you have each day. Our advice: start small, with five or ten minutes. It is easier to do more later than to keep up a goal that is too big.
-
Your learning time. The app asks when you want to practise. For example after breakfast or in the early evening. The app can remind you later at that time.
-
Your streak goal. A streak counts how many days in a row you have practised. The goal sets how long you want to keep your streak going. Choose a small number, such as seven days.
-
Your plan takes shape. Now LingFit builds your personal plan in front of you. It shows minutes a day, your starting level, your streak goal and a focus.
-
A message from the founder and a preview. After that come a short personal message and a look inside the app. Read at your leisure or tap on.
-
Reminders. The app asks permission to send notifications. Notifications are little alerts on your lock screen. Allow them if you would like a friendly reminder.
-
Sign in. On iPhone, tap “Sign in with Apple”. On Android, sign in with Google. You do not need a new password.
You can find out more about the app on the official LingFit website.
What you can happily skip or change later
- Notifications: you can decline them now and allow them later in your phone’s settings.
- Learning time and reminders: according to the maker, reminders can be set in the app.
- The trial: you do not have to start the subscription straight away. Read the terms at your leisure first.
- The founder’s message and the preview: you can simply tap on through.
An example of calm answers
Not sure what to answer? Here is an example that suits many beginners:
- Language: English → Italian
- Level: Beginner
- Motivation: Travel
- Age range: 35 or older
- Minutes a day: 10
- Learning time: 10am
- Streak goal: 7 days
With these answers, the course starts right at the beginning. The tone stays calm. And the goal is easy to reach.
Good to know
- Every new account gets a free credit (a point of credit). You can use it to have a chapter of your own built on a topic of your choice.
- After setting up, you will see two tabs (sections at the top of the screen): “Course” for the fixed course and “Yours” for your own chapters.
- For the first few times, the app shows little hints, such as “long-press a word for its translation”. They disappear once you know your way around the app.
- You can add more languages later. Progress stays separate for each language.
If something goes wrong
- You picked the wrong language by mistake: you can add another language and switch between languages.
- Signing in with Apple or Google does not work: check your internet connection. Close the app completely and open it again.
- The course is too hard: start again from the first lessons. The app brings back words you got wrong at the end of each lesson.
- You have a question: the maker replies at [email protected].
