About The Plainspoken Review

The Plainspoken Review explains technology in plain English. We write about phone apps for meditation and language learning, and about Meta Quest headsets (virtual reality headsets you wear over your eyes) and the games you can play on them.

We write for people who don’t think of themselves as “techy”. You won’t need to know any special words. When we do use one, we explain it straight away. You can also look words up in our glossary.

Who publishes this website

The Plainspoken Review started in 2026. You can see who publishes it, with full contact details, in our legal notice.

Our publisher also makes or publishes some of the products we write about. These are: LingFit, MindIsland, Laser Thief, Haunted: Are You Alone?, Tank Avenger – Mixed Reality, Sozo – Tower Defense.

We want to be completely open about this. When an article is about one of these products, it is written by the company that makes it. It is not an independent review. You can read more in our disclaimer.

How we write our guides

Plain English. Short sentences. No jargon. Every technical word is explained the first time we use it.
One step at a time. Instructions are numbered, so you can follow along and pick up where you left off.
Honest about costs. We tell you when something costs money, needs a subscription (a regular payment, usually monthly or yearly) or has extra purchases inside it.
Safety first. For headsets, we always remind you to clear a safe space and take breaks.
Fair to others. When we compare products, we include ones made by other companies and describe them fairly.
No made-up opinions. We never publish invented reviews, quotes or “readers tell us” stories.
