MindIsland in plain words: what the app does and who it's for
In short
- MindIsland creates a short meditation from a sentence you type in.
- You choose 3, 5 or 10 minutes. The first meditation is free.
- After that you need a subscription. The app is no substitute for medical advice.

You may have heard of meditation apps. A meditation app is a program for your phone. A calm voice guides you through breathing and sitting still. MindIsland is one of these apps, but with a difference. You don’t just hear a ready-made recording. The app creates a meditation about whatever is on your mind.
In this article we explain what MindIsland does, what you need and what it costs. We’ll also be honest about what the app can’t do.
What MindIsland does
The idea is simple. You type in a sentence, for example: “I have a doctor’s appointment tomorrow and I’m nervous.” Within seconds the app writes a fitting meditation from it. A computer voice reads it out to you.
Each of these meditations has three parts:
- It addresses your concern first.
- It helps you see it a little more calmly.
- It guides you to stillness with breathing and silence.
Every session starts with a breath: breathe in for four seconds, pause briefly, breathe out for six seconds.
If you’d rather not type anything, that’s fine too. A new daily meditation is waiting for you every morning.
What else the app offers
- A library (a collection of ready-made meditations). It’s sorted into eight areas, such as Breathe, Sleep, Focus and Gratitude.
- Articles. Short texts about mindfulness and attitudes to life. There’s also a daily quote.
- History and streak. The app shows how many sessions you’ve done and how many days in a row. You can listen to old meditations again and mark them as a favourite.
- Offline listening. Offline means without an internet connection. Your last ten meditations stay saved on your phone.
The meditations are in English. No other languages for the meditations are known.
Who the app is for
MindIsland suits people who:
- have never meditated and want to start small. Three minutes is enough.
- have a particular worry, such as before a conversation, a journey or an appointment.
- can’t switch off in the evening because their thoughts keep going round.
- found ready-made recordings too general.
You can meditate in any position. According to the provider, the guidance adapts: on a chair, on the floor, lying down or even standing.
What you need
- An iPhone or iPad with iOS 15 or newer (iOS is Apple’s operating system, the basic software of the device). Or an Android phone.
- An internet connection to download the app and create new meditations.
- Some storage space. On the iPhone the app is about 63 megabytes.
- Headphones are pleasant, but not essential.
What it costs
Downloading is free. You get one free meditation to try. After that you need MindIsland Premium. That’s a subscription (you pay regularly until you cancel).
On 10 October 2026, “MindIsland Premium Monthly” cost 12.99 dollars in the US App Store and 14.99 euros a month in the German App Store. There are other offers and packages with meditation credits (credit for extra meditations). We don’t know the prices in pounds. Please check the store before you buy. We didn’t find a free trial.
How to try it, step by step
- Download the app. Search the App Store for “MindIsland: Sleep & Meditation” or Google Play for “MindIsland”.
- Open the app. Follow the first prompts on the screen.
- Tap “Create meditation”.
- Write a short sentence. What’s on your mind right now?
- Choose the length. Three minutes is good to start with.
- Choose a voice. You can switch on background sounds if you like.
- Sit comfortably and tap “Start meditation”.
A typical day with MindIsland
This is how the app could fit into your day:
- Morning: you open the app and listen to the daily meditation. You don’t have to type anything. The meditation is new every morning.
- Midday: you have an appointment this afternoon that’s making you nervous. You type: “I’m anxious about my appointment today.” You choose 3 minutes and sit on a chair.
- In between: you read one of the short articles in the app. Or you browse the library, say the Gratitude section.
- Evening: you’re lying in bed and your thoughts keep going round. You choose 10 minutes and quiet background sound. The music gets quieter when the voice speaks.
Nobody has to use the app that often. Even one short session a day is a good start. The app does show you a streak (days in a row). But a missed day is no problem.
What MindIsland doesn’t offer
Honesty matters. These are things we didn’t find in the app:
- no sleep tracking and no connection to a watch on your wrist,
- no sleep stories, like the ones you know from other apps,
- no free trial for the subscription,
- no meditations in any language other than English.
Good to know
- MindIsland is not a medical device. That’s what it says in the store description too. The app is meant for relaxation and reflection, not for therapy or treatment.
- The app carries the note: AI-generated, no substitute for professional advice. AI means artificial intelligence, a computer program that writes texts.
- If you feel very low for a long time, please speak to your doctor.
- You can download all your data or delete your account at any time.
- The app is new. The first version appeared on 16 September 2026. That’s why there are hardly any reviews in the store yet.
Our impression
MindIsland is a good choice if you want short meditations about your real everyday life. Using it is straightforward: one sentence, one length, one button. If you’re after a big, free collection instead, you’re better off with other apps such as Insight Timer. If you like well-known sleep stories, take a look at Calm.
