Android is the basic software on many phones, for example from Samsung, Google, Motorola or Xiaomi. You download apps for Android through Google Play. That is Google’s app store.

In this guide you download MindIsland step by step. MindIsland is a meditation app. It creates short meditations about whatever is on your mind. We also explain the small notes on the store page.

What you need

  • An Android phone or tablet.
  • A Google account. This is usually an email address ending in “@gmail.com”. You set it up when you first set up your phone.
  • An internet connection, ideally Wi-Fi (the wireless internet at home). That way you don’t use up your mobile data.
  • Some free storage space.

What it costs

Downloading is free. You get one free meditation to try. After that you need MindIsland Premium. That is a subscription (you pay regularly until you cancel).

Prices are not shown on the public Google Play page. For comparison: in the US Apple App Store, “MindIsland Premium Monthly” cost 12.99 dollars a month on 10 October 2026. On Google Play you will see the price in pounds before you buy anything. Installing costs you nothing.

Step by step

  1. Open Google Play. The icon is a colourful arrow pointing to the right. It is called “Play Store”. If you can’t find it, swipe up on the home screen. That shows you all your apps.
  2. Tap the search box at the top. On some phones you first tap “Search” at the bottom.
  3. Type “MindIsland”. Tap the magnifying glass on the keyboard, or tap “Enter”.
  4. Choose the right app. It is called “MindIsland”. The icon shows a blue lotus flower.
  5. Check the provider. Under the name it says who provides the app. For MindIsland that is ThreeFlavors LLC. This helps you avoid apps with similar names.
  6. Tap “Install”. A green button.
  7. Wait a moment. A bar or circle shows the progress.
  8. Tap “Open”. The app starts. You will also find the icon among your apps afterwards.

The notes on the store page, simply explained

At the top of an app’s page on Google Play there are a few short details. Here are the main ones:

  • Age rating: On the American page, MindIsland says “Everyone”. Depending on the country, a different age rating symbol may appear there.
  • In-app purchases: This is what purchases inside the app are called, for example a subscription. MindIsland has a subscription and packs of meditation credits (credit for extra meditations).
  • “Updated on”: This date shows when the app was last improved.
  • Data safety: In this section the provider describes what data the app uses. You can read it at your leisure before downloading.

There are hardly any reviews for MindIsland yet. The app has only been available since September 2026.

The app’s first questions

When you first open MindIsland it shows a few pages to get you started. The app is in English.

  • Account: The app works with an account. Follow the prompts. Make a note of which email address you signed up with.
  • Notifications: Your phone may ask whether the app can send you notifications. These are little messages at the top of the screen, such as reminders. Tap “Allow” or “Don’t allow”. Either is fine. You can change this later under Settings → Apps → MindIsland → Notifications. The exact menu names vary a little from phone to phone.

After that you see the home screen with the daily meditation and the “Create meditation” button.

Finding the app easily from the home screen

After installing, Android sometimes only puts the app in the list of all apps. Here is how to get it onto your home screen:

  1. Swipe up on the home screen. You see all your apps.
  2. Find the icon with the blue lotus flower. Underneath it says “MindIsland”.
  3. Press and hold your finger on it. A small menu appears, or the icon lifts up.
  4. Drag it up onto the home screen or tap “Add to Home screen”.
  5. Let go. Now you will find the app straight away every time.

On some phones the menus have slightly different names. The principle is the same though: press and hold, drag, let go.

Automatic updates

Google Play usually installs updates (improved versions of an app) by itself when the phone is on Wi-Fi. That is a good thing. You don’t need to do anything. If you want to check: open the Play Store, tap your profile picture, then “Manage apps and device”.

Good to know

  • MindIsland is not a medical product. The app is meant for relaxation and reflection, not for therapy.
  • Your last ten meditations stay on the phone. You can listen to them without an internet connection.
  • You can download your data or delete your account at any time.
  • You can usually make the text bigger under Settings → Display → Font size.

If something goes wrong

  • “Your device isn’t compatible with this version”? Then unfortunately your phone doesn’t fit. Check under Settings → System → Software update whether a newer version of Android is available.
  • The download is stuck on “Pending”? Check your internet connection. Restart your phone and try again.
  • Not enough storage? Delete old videos or apps you no longer use.
  • Google asks for a password? That is the password for your Google account. If you have forgotten it, tap “Forgot password?”.

You can find out more about the app at mindisland.app. We explain terms like “in-app purchase” in the glossary.
