Maybe you have a Meta Quest at home and you are looking for a game for a special evening. Maybe someone in your family has mentioned the name HAUNTED. In this article we explain calmly what the game is. By the end you will know whether it suits you.

We do not give a score here. We describe honestly what you get and what you should bear in mind.

What HAUNTED is

HAUNTED: Are You Alone? is a horror game for the Meta Quest. The Meta Quest is a VR headset (a headset you put on like a pair of diving goggles). The game is published by ThreeFlavors LLC. It came out on 9 October 2026.

The special thing: the game uses mixed reality (the headset shows you your real room and lays game characters over the top). So you see your own living room. Then something knocks inside your wall. Arms break out of your walls. A hole opens up in your floor.

The story in one sentence: a witch has lived in a house for 100 years. Every family that moved in, she kept. Now she has found you. A little girl calls you on an old rotary phone and helps you.

What is in the game

HAUNTED has three parts. You choose them from the main menu.

  1. The story (Story). It lasts about 25 to 35 minutes. It is made up of a prologue, seven chapters, a finale and an epilogue. Each chapter brings a new threat and a new task.
  2. The chapter selection (Chapters). Here you can start any chapter directly. All chapters are open from the start.
  3. The game modes (Games). These are three arcade modes (short games where you collect points and play for as long as you last). They are called Grave Rush, Arm Cutter and Skull Hunt. They have no ending.

On top of that there are two secret chapters. You unlock these by drawing certain shapes on your floor. We will not give away how that works here.

What you need

  • A Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest Pro, Meta Quest 3 or Meta Quest 3S. These are the models the store lists.
  • A Meta account (your user account with Meta) with a payment method.
  • Around 563 MB of free storage (MB stands for megabyte, a unit of measurement for storage space).
  • A room with a bit of free space. Any room size works.
  • The willingness to move about. You turn, duck and crawl on your hands and knees.

You can play with the controllers (the two hand grips of the Quest). Or you can play with your hands only. That is called hand tracking (the headset recognises your hands through its cameras).

What it costs

On 10 October 2026, HAUNTED cost £3.99 in the UK Meta Store. That is a one-off purchase. According to the store there is no advertising in the game. You do not need a subscription (a regular payment).

Prices can change. Check the current price on the HAUNTED store page before you buy.

How to try it, step by step

  1. Put on the headset and open the store.
  2. Search for „HAUNTED: Are You Alone?“.
  3. Buy and install the game.
  4. Clear your play area. For example, push the coffee table to one side.
  5. Start the game. Read the two warning pages carefully.
  6. Choose your scanned room. Or scan a new one.
  7. Tap „New game“ in the main menu.

Who it is worth it for

HAUNTED is worth it above all if:

  • You like horror films or ghost trains and enjoy being scared.
  • You are looking for a short, self-contained experience for one evening.
  • You want to show friends what mixed reality can do. The jump scares are loud and physical.
  • You like collecting points after the story. The three game modes are there for that.
  • You are not an experienced player. After every death the „Help“ button helps you. From the third death in a chapter you can skip it with „Skip chapter“.

One advantage for beginners: the game never moves the camera. Your view only moves when you move yourself. In the store the comfort level is still listed as „Comfortable for some“. That is down to the turning, ducking and crawling.

Who it is not worth it for

The game is rated PEGI 18 in the store (a European age rating: 18 and over only). The extra wording is „Extreme Violence“.

The game warns at every start about sudden loud noises, flashing light, darkness, blood and violent jump scares. According to the game it is not suitable for:

  • children,
  • pregnant people,
  • people with epilepsy,
  • people with heart conditions,
  • people with anxiety disorders.

If you cannot kneel or crawl well, HAUNTED is not the right choice either. The story cannot be played sitting down.

And if you are expecting many hours of story: the story is deliberately short. The game modes afterwards are endless, but they are scoring games with no new story.

Good to know

  • The game is in English only.
  • According to the store you do not need the internet to play.
  • It is a game for one person. Others can watch, though.
  • The „Hide my room“ mode replaces your real room with a virtual padded cell. That is useful if you are filming and do not want to show your home.
  • Your game progress is saved on the headset only.

Our verdict in plain words

For £3.99 (as of 10 October 2026) you get a short, very scary story in your own room. On top of that there are three game modes to replay. The help buttons mean nobody gets stuck. If you enjoy a good scare and can move about well, you get a lot for very little money. If you do not like jump scares, give it a miss. That is not a weakness of the game. It is simply not made for everyone.

If something goes wrong

  • The characters appear in strange places: scan your room again.
  • It is too much for you: take off the headset. You can stop at any time.
  • You cannot get any further: use „Help“ on the screen after a death.
