How to buy and install HAUNTED on a Meta Quest, step by step

Buying a game on the Meta Quest isn’t hard. The first time, though, all those menus can feel unfamiliar. In this guide we’ll go through it slowly. As our example, we’ll use the horror game HAUNTED: Are You Alone?.

There are two ways. You can buy it in the headset itself. Or you can buy it comfortably on your phone, and the headset then downloads the game. Both routes lead to the same result.

What you need

• A Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest Pro, Meta Quest 3 or Meta Quest 3S. These are the models the Store lists for HAUNTED.
• A set-up Meta account (your user account with Meta, the one you signed the headset in with).
• A payment method on file, such as a bank card.
• Wi-Fi (wireless internet at home) for the download.
• Around 563 MB of free storage. MB means megabyte, a unit for measuring storage space. Once installed, the game takes up around 410 MB.
• A charged headset. A download with an almost empty battery can stop partway.
• For the second route: the Meta Horizon app on your phone (Meta’s official app for the Quest).

What it costs

On 10 October 2026, HAUNTED cost £3.99 in the UK Meta Store. That’s a one-off purchase, not a subscription (no regular payment). According to the Store, there are no ads in the game.

Prices can change. The Store always shows you the current price before you pay. You only pay when you confirm the purchase.

Route 1: Buying in the headset, step by step

1. Put the headset on and switch it on.
2. Press the Meta button on the right controller. That’s the round, flat button with the Meta logo. A bar with icons appears at the bottom.
3. Choose the Store from that bar. The icon looks like a shopping bag.
4. Choose the search field at the top. A keyboard appears in mid-air.
5. Type “Haunted” using the controller’s light beam.
6. Choose “HAUNTED: Are You Alone?” from the list. Watch out for the exact name. There are other games with similar names.
7. You’ll now see the info page. Check the age rating (PEGI 18) and the size there.
8. Choose the button with the price on it.
9. Confirm the purchase. Depending on your settings, the headset will ask for your PIN (a secret number for purchases).
10. The download starts automatically. Wait until it’s finished.

Route 2: Buying on your phone, step by step

Many people find tapping on a phone easier than pointing in mid-air.

1. Open the Meta Horizon app on your phone.
2. Sign in with the same account as on the headset.
3. Open the Store section in the app.
4. Search for “HAUNTED: Are You Alone?”.
5. Open the info page and tap the price.
6. Confirm the purchase.
7. Switch on your headset and connect it to Wi-Fi. The game will then usually install by itself. If not, find it in your library in the headset (the list of games you’ve bought) and choose “Install” there.

Button names can change slightly with new software versions. The order stays much the same, though.

The first launch

1. Open your library in the headset.
2. Choose HAUNTED.
3. The game first shows two pages of warnings. Read them at your own pace.
4. After that you’ll see the room selection. It lists all the rooms your headset already knows.
5. Choose your room. Or choose “Scan a new room” to map a room from scratch.
6. The main menu now floats in your room. “New game” starts the story.

Before you buy: check the info page

The info page in the Store tells you a lot. Take a minute over it. For HAUNTED it includes the following details (as of 10 October 2026):

If any of these details don’t suit you, it’s better not to buy. That saves hassle.

Good to know

• Age rating: HAUNTED is rated PEGI 18 (a European age rating: 18 and over only). It contains blood and intense jump scares. According to the game, it isn’t suitable for children.
• Internet: You need internet for the download. According to the Store, not to play afterwards.
• Language: The game is in English only.
• One purchase, one account: The game belongs to your Meta account. If you delete it, you can reinstall it later without buying it again.
• Space in the room: Clear an area before your first game. You’ll be turning, ducking and crawling.

If something goes wrong

• You can’t find the game in search: Check the spelling. Just type “Haunted” and scroll through the list.
• The purchase is declined: Check your payment method in the Meta Horizon app under account settings.
• The download stalls: Check your Wi-Fi. Restart the headset by holding down the power button and choosing “Restart”.
• Not enough storage: Delete a game you no longer play. You can reinstall it later.
• The game doesn’t appear in the headset after buying on your phone: Check that your phone and headset use the same Meta account. Then look in your library.
